How to choose the right shade of white for your wallsHave you ever felt overwhelmed choosing a shade of white paint? There's so many options to choose - from warm whites to cool whites to grey whites, etc. 50 Shades and more! You may narrow it down to maybe 5 choices or less, but it's still difficult to select the final shade. Well, the good news is - today, we are going to give you some tips for when it comes to selecting your wall paint. First, it's important to consider your surroundings; timbers, tiles, existing furniture, etc. Look at your house as a whole - from the inside out. What would you say the overall tone is? Warm, cool, grey, pink, etc? Depending on your answer, that will help determine which type of white you should choose. Below we have narrowed down some of the white families to consider. Warm WhitesWarm whites have a somewhat yellow, brown or a red undertone. Warm whites work particularly well with a nice earthy palette and compliment timbers such as walnut, Tasmanian oak and spotted gum floors (to name a few). Warm tones can create a cosy atmosphere and if painting a south-facing room - can add a sense of light. We often like to suggest to our client's who are repainting their traditional styled homes - which more often than not will have a dominant wall colour or feature wall, to repaint to a more neutral colour. Some of our favourite warm paints to work with are the following: - Antique White U.S.A by Dulux - Whisper White by Dulux - Natural White by Dulux - Modesty White by Haymes Paint - Marble Mist by Haymes Paint Whisper White by Dulux and Marble Mist by Haymes Paints are both versatile paints that can be used with cool or warm tones. For example, whenWhisper White is surrounded by grey tones, it helps bring out the grey undertone in the wall, however when surrounded by warmer tones - the creamy side of this colour is more prominent. Cool WhitesCooler Whites have somewhat a blue, grey or beige undertone. They compliment grey surroundings and work particularly well in more modern builds. Cooler whites work well in north-facing rooms as it tends to neutralise bright light. If you are hoping to achieve a minimalistic look for your home, then this is the perfect type of white paint. Some of the Cooler Whites that we often recommend to clients are the following: - Casper White by Dulux - Lexicon by Dulux - Whisper White by Dulux - Modesty White by Haymes Paint - Subtle Light by Haymes Paint Modesty White by Haymes Paint, like Whisper White, is a great hybrid. It can be used in both cool and warm areas and compliments the existing surroundings beautifully. There are plenty of hybrid colours in the paint world, but be sure to pinpoint what the undertones are to be sure that it highlights the right tone. Grey WhitesGreys can both have a warm or cool tone to it too - like whites, and is now more commonly considered neutral. Take a close look when selecting a grey, see what undertone is coming through and choose carefully based on the existing surroundings. Greys with too much of a blue undertone can often look more like a lilac/purple colour rather than a grey itself. Some of the recommended Greys/White Greys we like to work with are the following: - Terrace White by Dulux - Tranquil Retreat by Dulux - Grey Reflection by Dulux - Greyology 3 by Haymes Paint - Twill by Taubmans Terrace White by Dulux is a safe selection to work with if just looking for a subtle hint of grey on white walls. Tranquil Retreat by Dulux is a more prominent grey, but does look quite nice when featured in an area with plenty of natural light. Pinky WhitesPinky Whites are perfect when working with blush, rust or natural tones. If you have a stone bench that displays pink tones throughout it, you could add a hint of pink though a pinky white colour. When painting a children's bedrooms, it's great to work with a pinky white rather than just a bright pink - to make it easier to change/restyle as they get older. Some great examples of some Pinky Whites are the following: - Pink Chill by Haymes Paint - Pale Dogwood by Haymes Paint - Lilac Whismey by Taubmans - Limed White by Dulux Pink Chill by Haymes Paint is a great soft, pinky white which when surrounded by soft features and fittings can look really elegant! Both cool and warm tones will work really nicely with this colour. Still pulling your hair out choosing your colour? It's not an easy job - so don't stress! BEFORE AND AFTER PHOTOS CAPTURED AT 13 PEREASE ROAD, WOLLERT BY TAURO DESIGNS The Benefits of Property Styling | 24th of April, 2020Selling your home can be stressful, especially if you are considering selling in the year of 2020. What a crazy year it has been and we are only in April! Although things are up in the air at the moment in the midst of this global pandemic, if there is one thing I can still strongly recommend; whether it's for right now, next month, or in the next six months - it's that you should always consider styling your vacant property rather than selling empty. Why? Well that's simple - a vacant property will not have as much impact as a styled home. As human beings, we need that emotional connection when making a purchase. Think about it, when you see an ad pop up on your instagram feed, you only click it if it's something you are interested in, right? Well the same thing applies for property listings. When scrolling through the list of current properties for sale, you are very likely to click the links that look appealing to you. It may be that it's the style of house you are looking for or that the initial first photo had you at hello. For whatever reason, the first impression had you click on the link. From there, it's so easy to click through the first few photos and simply say 'nope' and click out of that link. From someone who is constantly on realestate.com.au, I've been there, many times! If you are selling your home, put yourself in the buyers shoes; understand what will attract the current market and educate yourself on how you can achieve the maximum sales result. If you're considering listing your property for sale, please see below the benefits of Property Styling: Your Property will appeal to a wider marketWhen engaging with a Professional Property Stylist, they will understand exactly what furnishings will help appeal to the demographics of the current market. From one glance at your property at the initial quotation, they will be noting down exactly what furniture will help enhance each space and compliment the existing features of the home. Understanding the current trends will help maximise the property's potential and allow for more competition between interested buyers. Your Property will stand out from the crowdWhen your property is professionally styled, your property will stand out amongst other similar homes. As I touched on briefly before, when a buyer creates an emotional connection to the home it can lead to a higher offer from a competitive buyer. Property Stylist's will aim to showcase the lifestyle on offer to appeal to the hearts of buyers so that they can purchase their dream home. Highlight the scale of each roomWhen engaging with a Property Stylist, they will select furnishings that help enhance each space. A professional stylist will select the right size bed for each room based on it's size, the right sofa that compliments the open plan layout and carefully selects every detail; from furniture to the decor - to ensure the colours and tones flow from the front to the back door. When walking through a vacant home, for many, it's hard to visualise how the furniture will be spaced out. However when a property is styled, it helps buyers understand the real life scale of the room and visualise their own items in the home. PHOTO CAPTURED BY TAURO DESIGNS Distract from any existing imperfectionsHaving your property staged helps distract the eye from any imperfections that may be sighted immediately if the property was vacant. Distracted by the lifestyle on offer, buyers are likely to overlook minor imperfections that may be existent in the property. Maximise your sales resultThe best part about having your property professionally styled is that it potentially leads to a higher sales. More often than not, our vendors walk away with a result that was beyond their expectations! One of our recent vendors, Alexandra, from 69 Harding Street in Coburg, mentioned that having the property styled allowed buyers to see the full potential that their property had to offer. "We were quite stressed due to the crisis occurring however we ended up receiving an offer of $200k over what we were expecting! The styling allowed buyers to see the full potential the home had to offer." It's important to understand that styling your home is not an expense, it's an investment.
